SETTING

Definition: A controlled skill in which you are contacting the ball about your head with open hands. You are trying to control the ball and deliver it to a very specific spot on the court. Both of your hands should move together like a mirror image. Use your soft finger pads to contact and control the ball. Everyone need to know how to set-not just the specific setters. We need to set the 2nd contacts.

1. FOOTWORK:

  • Use quick and efficient footwork to get under the ball.
  • Any ball that is high enough you should be able to set.
  • Your last 3 steps are: Right, Left -Right and Set!
  • Stay on the balls of your feet and use your legs to push though the ball.

2. ONE MOTION

  • Get your hands up quick and high.
  • Your hands should be 6-8 inches above your forehead.

3. BALL SHAPED HANDS

  • Form your hands into the same shape as the ball. (Round)
  • Cock your wrist and your palms will almost face each other.
  • You should have a Triangle or Window to look through
  • Make sure your hands are wide enough to control the ball.

4. CONTACT

  • Contact the ball with high- "Ball Shaped Hands".
  • Your fingers should be comfortably apart and slightly cupped.
  • Contact the ball with your finger pads.

5.FOLLOW THROUGH

  • Extend your hands to your target.
  • As you push through the ball your hands will follow straight through the ball.
  • Your palms should be flat after contact. Not like a swimmer.
